Lucas is standing in the shadows of a tree in Central Park as the rain pours out of the sky. The air is heavily laden with anticipation as the Kindred’s eyes are cast about the perpetual gloom, hoping to find some traces of his prey. He had been tracking a human. However this was not a garden variety chase the likes of which can be seen on almost any corner in this bustling city. Instead the man he was currently in hot pursuit had been touched by the essence of evil. It was an evil so pure as to corrupt the hearts of any man unfortunate enough to be ensnared in his clutches. The man in question had been possessed by a demon and as such it became Lucas’ responsibility to put the dog down. He was well aware of exorcisms and other ways to banish the avatar of destruction but he wasn’t interested in such tactics. Instead, he preferred the tried and tested method of killing it, hoping to extinguish its black heart with righteous anger and take the pour soul with it. That way he could be sure to put it down forever and not to offer it the chance to roam free once more. This way he could one day kill the demon that he fixated on most. This way, the memory of those long lost would be reconciled and in his mind, he would be free.
A dozen yards or so away Lucas hears a primeval scream of terror resonates into the fetid air. His eyes furrow with a resounding ferocity, one so deep that no amount of revenge against these hell-spawn could possibly slate his thirst. The Warrior of the Kindred breaks into a sudden run as he races to the demon’s victim. A woman is lying stricken, a slash mark visible across her throat but not deep enough to have killed her. A man is standing over her fallen body his eyes two black domes. Lucas snarls his dissent at the figure before him. The possessed human blinks and all traces of his demonic puppet master disappear with an evil cackle before he retreats into the gloom. Lucas gives chase and soon leaves from the lowest branches of the trees are slapping into his face.
Ahead in the darkness a bin is knocked over. The noise registers in Lucas’ brain and he charges towards the sound, his entire being focussed solely on the task ahead of him. He bumps into something and he hears a grunt of pain. Lucas is upon his prey in a moment as he extracts a dagger and holds it out in front of the poor individual’s face, the blade hovering an inch from his face. The demon inside him laughs maniacally, openly taunting Lucas. His face turns rigid and it takes on an emotionless cast as he inches the blade ever closer to his nemesis, relishing the moment to come.
You don’t have what it takes. You are capable of killing us when we fight back but how about when we don’t even try to defend ourselves. Can you really kill this vessel that I’m inhabiting? Could you harm the life of this innocent?
The demon’s laugh rises once more, louder this time. Lucas can feel the anger taking over his body ad adrenalin begins to course through the entirety of his system. His heart beats faster and he feels a stabbing pain in his chest that causes him to cry out and fall to his knees. The puppet master laughs evilly once more as he rises to his feet and stands over his hunter as agony wracks his form. The demon has a smug expression on his face as he thinks he has won and secretly thanks whatever mysterious forces downed his enemy before he had a chance to act on his impulses. Lucas’ falls to one knee as the pain grows in intensity but he smiles as he looks up into those blank eyes. His own abruptly turn completely blue and veins of pure energy stretch on the surface of his skin. The demon recoils in horror as Lucas stands fully erect. The smile on the Kindred spreads ever wider as he feels the power rising.
I don’t have to you fowl creation of the pit! You aren’t the only thing that can possess a human. I am the spirit of Justice and Vengeance. I am Etrigan and I will vanquish your fowl evil from this world.
The Justice Demon inside Lucas takes control and he places his hand outwards. In the next moment Lucas’ hand is placed on the fleeing demon and the energy is instantly transferred between the two human vessels. Lucas’ prey opens their mouth and a bright light shines forth from it as the spirit of justice works his power through both forms. The intensity of the light increases tenfold and the air crackles around them while the demon from within the human in front of Lucas emits a fearful cry. It rises in pitch until it is lost from the range of human ears. A few more seconds pass before a shockwave blasts outwards with Lucas at its epicentre. The man before him drops to the ground, the demon having been vanquished by Etrigan. He was Lucas’ secret weapon and the sole reason for him living now. When he was younger, the member of the Kindred had fared badly in a demon attack and a Vengeance Demon had taken over his body and used its own life force to keep his new ally alive. Hell was not home to just evil entities, but also to beings of Justice that had been imprisoned in hellfire. Etrigan was such a one. The man lying on the ground opens his eyes and coughs a few times, unsure as to what unfolded mere moments earlier. Lucas helps him to his feet and makes something up for his sake before stumbling off, trying to recover from his own brief possession.

"Lucas!"
The sweet tintinnabulation of a familiar female voice reaches his ears and the green haired Vampire appears under the nearest lamp light. The exhausted warrior initially jumps in surprise, too engrossed in his task to have heard her approach, and when he recognizes the Vampire he returns his gaze to the resting place that calls his name. She's clad in a little black dress and her hair falls in a vibrant cascade of green curls down her back and shoulders. She gasps as she watches her fellow Kindred member stumble weakly toward the part bench and runs to intercept him, "are you okay?"
Elizabeth gently cups his elbow and guides him to the seat, "sorry for sneaking up on you, got a sniff of your blood and thought I'd come and check things out... See if you needed help. It seems its getting more and more dangerous for people to be out alone at night, even people like us."
"Speak for yourself... I'm fine on my own."
The Vampire drew a deep breath in through her nose, relaxing the tension that had built up in her body whilst she watched the fight. Her emerald orbs scan his body, looking for any sign of injury, and then her eyes level with his, "I'm glad you're alright... But maybe we should get out of here, if that Demon is a member of The Order he no doubt has some friends out here with him."

Lucas looks into the eyes of the vampire standing across from him. He nods more to himself as he listens to what she has to say before he stands up from the bench. His legs are still wobbly, testament to the amount of energy taken out of him from his brief possession of the Justice Demon. Elizabeth has a concerned look on her face while her fellow Kindred member tries to find his balance as he leaves the scene of the recent demon killing as quickly as humanly possible.
Things are getting more dangerous but that’s part of the job. I’ll take out as many evil scumbags that I can until I get my hands on my nemesis. Every demon I take out between now and then is just a diversion. Now, let’s get out of here.
Lucas starts walking through the park with Elizabeth at his side. Every now and then he leans against her, trying to regain some of his energy. She has a concerned look on her face, having not seen the possession take over him for quite some time. Secretly though, the possessions had been getting more frequent as his desperation and thirst for vengeance having increased in volume recently, thus leaving himself open. The vampire somehow senses something is wrong.
It’s not usually this bad Lucas. It’s happening more and more I can tell. This time Etrigan took more out of you than he usually does and you wanted to leave as soon as you took out that demon. That tells me you’re more drained than usual.
Lucas grits his teeth as he continues walking, each step still an effort. He had heard news of the demon that had killed his parents and his fervour had recently gotten the better of him. He could feel the spirit of Justice growing stronger with every visit and he had spent longer each night hunting demon spawn.
It’s nothing to worry about. Don’t concern yourself with my health, I’m just working more and it’s taking it out of me. I haven’t seen you around much recently so tell me, what have you been up to?
Lucas hopes that his attempt to change the subject isn’t noticed by his counterpart as they continue walking through the park. The hum of traffic is heard as they get closer to the roads. They walk in silence for a few seconds before Elizabeth replies. He gives her some time to collect her thoughts.

Suddenly the quick sound of something quickly flying through the air catches their attention and as they turn to investigate another demon is seen pinned to at tree with a single shot through the eye socket, the bolt's end still protruding out just under the eye.
"And shepherds we shall be... For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand... That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee. And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti."
The fiery locks shine as Patrick makes his way pass the tree line with a smile. He looks at both Elizabeth and Lucas for a moment a sense of pride about him before bowing his head toward the two, his white button up flowing in the light breeze.
"Good 'morrow... Seems ta me like you should really be watchin your backs betta."
He turns his attention toward Lucas.
"Oh do excuse meh... I'm bein quite rude... My name is Patrick..."
His eyes then go completely white.
"But you can call me Fide..."

Elizabeth shutters as he bumps into her again, the warmth of his human flesh sending goose bumps across the expanse of her epidermis, “I worry about you because I care,” she sighs and slips her shoulder under his arm to offer him more support, “ As far as what I’ve been up to? I picked up an unruly Vampire in Soul Haven and then discovered his Maker is none other than Vikrcop Coffinterror… In case you didn’t know, that’s some serious shit to us Vampires, he’s one of the first of our kind. It also means a great deal to The Kindred. After doing some snooping I have reason to believe he is involved with The Order of the Eye.”
Her thin brows furrow as she watches her comrade struggle, “you’re starting to sound like one of The Inquisition you know. You're going to work yourself to death, don’t let yourself get blinded by vengeance Lucas. You’re a good person, we both know this, but sometimes this job can make a good person go bad, understand? Not all Demons are baddies, you of all people should know that.”
As if on cue a sound whizzes past their heads and another demon possessed comes into view, “I’d be more careful about sneaking up on people if I were you, either one of us could have had your head in a second, and we are more than capable of defending ourselves, thank you. I’m Elizabeth and this is-“

The head of Fide turns toward Lucas and nods.
"I know too well who your friend is Lass..."
Those blazing white orbs fix their gaze back onto the green haired vampire.
"And obviously you know not who I am... But then again what does a vampire know about Faith?"
It is not exactly arrogance radiating from Patrick, Fide, whatever you call him, but almost an holy aura which is peculiar to those not use to it.
"For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”
Another biblical verse symbolizes his opinion of the being he is looking at, but at the same time it is more so he cannot understand how such a creature can exist.

Lucas nods at his counterpart as he continues to struggle forwards with the Vampire bearing his weight somewhat. The Irishman appears to notice the slight gesture, mutual respect clearly on the faces of both men but never straying into anything resembling friendship. He turns his gaze upon Elizabeth briefly, signalling for her to allow him to walk by himself. She does so and her fellow Kindred member walks almost normally, seemingly recovered a little from his visit from Justice.
Thank you for your concern Elizabeth but I’m fine. I’ve not been hunting demons exclusively, but they are the only access to information. I don’t have to kill them to get satisfaction. But something you said has peeked my interest. What was this about the Order of the Eye and what does your Vampire friend have to do with it?
After he finishes talking to Elizabeth he strides a few more steps to allow her a few seconds to think. He turns his attention on the Irishman, a man who had drifted in and out of his life for over a century.
I haven’t seen you for a while Patrick. What trouble brought you here?
Lucas pauses for a moment and he suddenly turns stiff. He can feel the spirit of Justice animate him woodenly for a moment as he takes over his motor functions. Despite this, it isn’t as intense as it was earlier, merely using his host to pass a message onto his fellow Demon-kin that is currently residing in Lucas’ counterpart.
Nice to see you, Brother.
Lucas regains control as the power in him subsides. The Kindred member seems taken aback from the experience and he shakes his arms to get some feeling back into them.

The passage that the angelic entity before her quotes stabs her in the chest like a well aimed blade, ripping open old wounds and bearing her battered soul in ways a human being could never understand. Elizabeth clenches her teeth, her hands wrapping her chest protectively, and Beth fights back the urge to sob, I’ve cried far too much as of late; I'm not a monster. With a heavy sigh and a genuinely apologetic expression she addresses the new comer, “I’m sorry Fide… To be honest, you surprised me and I’ve had a rough night, I am ashamed that I spoke to you so boorishly. Thank you for your help, I hope you will forgive me for my bad behavior.”
She returns her attention to Lucas, a serious expression painted on her soft features, “Vikrcop Coffinterror; he’s a psychopathic blood thirsty murderer and a major player in The Order of The Eye, right up there with Lilith. His protégé is at Adalrich’s now, he was causing a ruckus at the club, so I took him under my wing, in an attempt to show him the kinder side of Non-humans. He described what he could remember of his Maker… And based on the description and a recent spike in human and Non-human disappearances, I believe it to be the fabled ‘Bat’. .. But then, if you’re hot on the trail of something huge as well… I don’t want to trouble you, in case this youngling is crying wolf.”
When he turns his attention to Patrick her emerald orbs dance between the two of them. She finds herself overwhelmed by the energy she feels billowing off of their bodies, no doubt from the entities residing within them, and so insignificant in comparison. With a bitter chuckle, Elizabeth realizes she feels young and ignorant again, a sensation she doesn't relish. Suddenly, the dancing warrior wants nothing more than to escape from this place and abandon her pursuit of justice. She swallows hard, waiting for the two powers to complete their exchange and meekly excuses herself, “well, that Kain fellow is a handful and he’s already threatened Adalrich’s life once, I think I’ll let you two catch up.”

The angelic entity takes hold of the passing vampire and maneuvers her into his line of site.
"It has indeed been far too long brother... But it is by his grace that I am here..."
He turns his white hot gaze onto Beth with a gentle smile.
"I am here to see you just as much as I him Lass.."
He places a hand on her forehead and kisses it.
"You are forgiven... All you needed to do was ask for it."
The spirit's grip on this body is strong, but the inner light of it's shell shows brightly as well. Two distinct voice pass through the vessel's lips, Patrick and Faith a symphony of harmony in their diverse yet similar tones.
"The veil's walls are thinning... And you need me just as much as I need you to face what is to come. And this Vikrcop as you call him is a key part, but as is another... Though this one does not know his part."

Lucas listens as his two compatriots talk. After Elizabeth finishes telling him about Vikrcop and the Order of the Eye some long buried piece of information immediately surfaces and makes its presence known. His mind races as he tries to trace the thought and why this all sounded so familiar, barely regarding Fide or the Vampire as he takes a few steps away from either of them. He can feel their eyes on his back and they throw a question glance between the two of them, wondering what is going on.
This can’t be. I interrogated some demons and they said something about the Undead one leading a revolution and breaking the veil between worlds. There’s more to this than meets the eye and the demon that killed my parents and your vampire are at the centre of all of this.
Lucas rounds on his on again, off again partner and he stands next to the Irishman. He gives him an intense look as the anger rises up in him once more, threatening to overtake him. His fists are clenched tightly and they begin to turn white with the amount of effort he is expending to keep his emotions in check. He knew deep down that his friend was right; he should ease back from the edge of insanity and possibly a descent into a darker realm. Because of this, he contained the red mist that threatened to break free from his mental dam.
Have you heard any news about demons or the Order of the Eye? I’ve been hearing a lot of demons recently intoning one thing and it all points in one direction. The Eye Watches.
Lucas lets the sentence hang in the air meaningfully as he waits for a reply.

Elizabeth gasps in surprise as the angelic entity grips her arm, fighting back the instinct to jerk free from his grip, and she gazes at the warrior for good expectantly. Despite her bodies lack of blood she feels her cheeks growing hot at the way that Fide addresses her, how did he manage to make her feel so helpless? Not since the early years of her human life had she felt so fragile. A nervous laugh escapes her lips as he gently touches and kisses her forehead, “thank you Fide, you're very kind.”
However, her mouth drops at her friend Lucas’ statement, “Lucas, you know I adore and respect you, but why hasn’t The Kindred or den master been informed of this? Or at least Adalrich? How long have you been in possession of this information? Never mind, it fine, everything will be fine now. They may have been able to keep things under wraps for a short time, but we know now… and that’s something. We can handle this, it is our purpose.”
She watches the exchange between the old friends silently, a patient smile painted on her face, wondering momentarily how they may have met. As she inspects their mannerisms whilst conversing she can see the rage boiling within Lucas, saddening her as well as twisting her innards with anxiety. Elizabeth hopes, as she listens to their exchange, that Patrick will gently guide him back onto the right path. Beth fears that perhaps his endeavors have planted within him a dark seed, a terrible sickness that might take root and blacken his just heart. The eye watches, where have a heard that before? Once they’ve finished their conversation the Vampiress clears her throat, “Then will you accompany me to Soul Haven? Adalrich and Kain are awaiting our arrival.”

The Spirit of Faith looks at the vampire as if she has just slapped him in the face before turning to his spiritual sibling.
"What say you Brother? I know what I have told you about this situation, but I do not know this Adalrich and Kain she speaks of. The only Kain I know of is the one who turned against and murdered his brother Able... How do I not know this Kain of her's will do no different?"
The shimmering light continues to pulse around the spirit as he speaks.
"But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; ..."
He turns his attention back to Elizabeth with a soft yet stern look plastered over his visage.
"No offense to you Lass, but I don't think going with you suits at this moment."

Lucas pulls himself back from the brink in his thoughts as he casts his gaze over to one of the few in his life he ever let get a little bit close to him. Elizabeth offers him a wry smile, her concern registering on her ancient features at the sight of it tugs at the few remaining heartstrings that have not yet succumbed to a centuries old rage and fire. He manages to contain the demon inside him. Despite it being a spirit of justice and order, Lucas could feel the unquenchable lust for vengeance and felt with every possession every sinew of his fibre being taken over by the entity. While it sustained his life, sometimes when Lucas was in a dark frame of mind it would seek to control his soul. In its own way, Justice sought to help Lucas in the only way it knew. That was to use its power to smite evil, unknowingly sending its host toward a darker path.
You’re right, both of you. I’ve been ignoring the greater picture to seek personal vengeance and this is bigger than the demon that killed my parents. This is bigger than New York and I should not be withholding information that could help the order. Faith, you’re more than welcome to join us or stay here. Do as you desire, but for once this evening I must do my sacred duty to serve and protect others first rather than wallow in self-doubt and pity.
Lucas gives a curt and almost rude nod to his equally possessed counterpart. However, their relationship with one another was cordial at best, never developing beyond a mutual and almost grudging respect for one another. Patrick always walked a higher path while Lucas was prone to these lapses, having to drag himself back from the edge more than once. It was harder each time. He gives his friend Elizabeth a warmer smile, though it only lasts for a moment before he is walking off at speed.

Elizabeth is momentarily taken aback by Faith’s reaction to her request, struggling not to act too rash or express her offense at his response. An unwaveringly pleasant smile spreads across her features as she listens quietly to Patrick while he recites another of his biblical passages. She wonders again how it is that Lucas and Patrick came to know one another and if their relationship has more to do with the creatures residing within their bodies as opposed to their rightful owners. I wonder if Patrick is anything like his Demon Fide, after all… Lucas is as much a warrior for good as the spirit that occupies him. I can’t imagine what it must be like to share your body and mind with another…
“Kain isn’t his given name, it is a name he has given himself to represent his experiences since becoming a vampire… This fellow has a story to tell to say the least. However, I trust him unflaggingly, and If you don’t wish to join us… That is fine, I understand, it’s hard to trust…. Or have faith in this day and age.”
The effervescent sanguinist nearly throws her arms over her comrade’s shoulders when he’s finished addressing them. Elizabeth is pleased with his response, more so by his ability to recognize the importance to correct his current path, but also by what she assumes to be his compliance with her suggestion that they retire to Soul Haven. With a relieved sigh Beth prances after Lucas, looping her arm around his when she closes the space between them, “thank you… For trusting me and my judgment.”
The green haired Vampire gazes up at the agent of Justice and gives him a bright smile, “I am so glad you’re back in the states, I’ve missed working with you Lucas.”

Lucas continues walking in silence for a few moments while his fellow Kindred member walks beside him with her arm looped around his. He looks at her and nods his gratitude, knowing that it sometimes takes the efforts of others to push you toward the correct path. Lucas’ hatred had gotten the better of him on a number of occasions and she inspired the better parts of his nature. As such, an unspoken bond had formed between the two of them, at least in Lucas’ mind and he allowed himself the honour of calling her a friend, an accolade not afforded to many. Lucas’ nature was to push everyone away from him and to remain in solitude, and he had done so for many weeks before returning to New York a few months ago. His mind returns to current events as he continues to walk in silence. At last they reach the edge of Central Park.
What do you think is the nature of threat Elizabeth? My quest for vengeance almost blinded me to the truth of what is transpiring and I am still unclear as to how these events are connected. We should definitely converse with the order, for it may aid all of us in the coming battles. And it warms my heart to know that you will be standing alongside me.
Lucas offers the Vampire a genuinely warm smile. He sighed to himself, a lifetime of isolation and regret having made Lucas a reclusive individual not used to sharing his feelings or even acknowledging anything in himself other than his drive to vanquish evil. He casts his gaze back to see if Patrick and his spirit of Faith have followed them. He shrugs his shoulders in resignation.
