Lucas rocks back and forth on his bed, a thick layer of sweat on his torso as he continues to turn fitfully. His eyes are clenched tight and his mouth stretches wide, screaming soundlessly at invisible horrors that tear at his mind. In this haze of imagery, the embodiment of his Justice Demon burns with a clear blue visage, attempting to alleviate the nightmares that play in the deep recesses of the Kindred’s mind. The unseen battle continues to rage on. Lucas does not know what is happening around him, the entirety of his attention all focussed on the war currently being waged. This was not a war with casualties and a collective misery shared among thousands. It was the type of war that is fought daily, a man vainly attempting to keep the darkness locked away deep inside and hoping to never unearth it. Unfortunately for the Black family, they had never been very successful in this undertaking.
The images in Lucas’ mind come thick and fast now. He relives every evil experience in his life starting with the murder of his parents and every moment of questionable morality that flowed as a direct result of that one life changing moment. Justice lays its soothing fingers on his friend’s mind, once again aiding him. However, the entity can feel its own life energy draining more and more as with every outstretched hand that provides help and comfort merely quickens the end. This nightmare had raged for a few hours now and still had no signs of abating. For the first time since it began, Lucas felt the touch of evil that had initiated this series of events and a malevolent laugh echoes in the corners of his mind. The Justice Demon burns brightly at the new presence and the battle is fought with renewed vigour.
Lucas had known it was a bad omen. Hours earlier he had been waiting for news from the Kindred when he detected the taint of evil nearby. These fresh memories flood in, temporarily blocking the fight between good and evil. The Kindred Warrior had decided to find this evil by himself to alleviate his boredom but had found a child possessed by a demon. The problem had been that there was more than one child there and uncharacteristically, Lucas had chosen incorrectly. It was a mistake; a mistake which had cost him dearly. The demon had enveloped Lucas’ brain and now the two creatures were vying for control. The direct result of which was that the Kindred member’s Justice Spirit was expending its energy, and Lucas’ life, to keep the creature at bay and the demon was using its own life force to corrupt what little time his sworn enemy had left.
There was a faint knock at the door. Lucas’ fevered screams must have been mistaken for a response because a moment later the door is opened wider and a figure steps through into his room. He could feel a pair of eyes gazing upon him and in one desperate motion, pointed to a pad of paper and a pen that had been placed on a nearby table. Lucas’ fingers felt stiff and sore but he willed himself to articulate his message, his one hope of salvation. After finishing his note, the mysterious figure raises the paper to their eyes. The message reads ‘Frank the Crank. He knows what to do.’

"Good to know, young Justice. Perhaps I could be of more use than this Frank."
The mass murderer of Human and Non-Human alike stalks into the room. His cape flowing behind him, the long haired Bat looks down at the poor possessed individual.
"I know you work for the Kindred. But there is so much more you could be if you left them. You think they could forgive your mistake?"
Coffinterror sits at the edge of the bed, his cold red eyes locked onto the eyes of Lucas.
"It's a facade. A performance when you're near. But when you're gone they discuss what to do with you."

Lucas, even in his addled condition, can sense the presence of one of his hated enemies bearing down upon him. The Vampire’s presence, strangely, bring a clarity and he stands up off the bed in half a second. His eyes burn with anger and his fists are clenched as if he is readying himself for a fight. His enemy laughs at this display scornfully as the demon in the Warrior’s mind reasserts itself, causing him to drop to one knee in front of Vikrcop. This causes the anger to build up once again in Lucas and a bright blue light shines out as Justice temporarily locks the evil inside a cage of its life force. His host spits his words out venomously.
I know I made a mistake, it happens sometimes and I don’t care what they do with me. I allied with the Kindred because they help me put evil sons of b*@ches like you down. If they want to cut me loose then it won’t stop me from spending my every waking moment ridding the world of your filth.
In one blurred motion, Lucas retrieves a knife that had been hidden in his belt and he flings it at the Vampire. Vikrcop must have been expecting something like this to happen as he easily sidesteps the clumsy attack and laughs coldly. The internal struggle inside the Kindred member burns once again and he drops to his knees, his blood curdling screams of agony music to the ears of the individual currently standing in front of him. From the other side of the door, footsteps can be heard approaching the room Lucas is currently renting. The door swings inwards to reveal the newcomer.

"...A life without love-" Elizabeth Eberstark She held in her hand an herbal remedy she had gotten from Adalrich, a concoction that promised to invigorate the body and breathe new life into a tainted soul, but Elizabeth somehow suspected it would have no effect on her good friend Lucas. Beth’s slender fingers work nervously over the frayed strings of the velvet pouch whilst she waits for the number on the elevator to indicate she has reached her friend’s level. Finally, the metal doors open and she is immediately greeted with the sound of frantic shouting and though it is muffled Elizabeth recognizes the voice of the person exclaiming; Lucas. She runs with a renewed sense of urgency down the hall, her heart racing like a jack rabbit, and the small bag of herbs still clutched in her hand. The Vampiress grips the doorknob and sighs in relief as the door gives way, thank god it isn’t locked. Though, she finds herself striking that thought as not only her fellow Kindred member comes into view, but another man with a much darker aura about him. “Who the hell are you?!?!” her hand darts to her thigh and the sweet Sangunist withdraws her trusty German blade, swinging it around threateningly, showing the intruder she is more than capable of wielding the instrument, “get the out of here if you know what’s good for you!”“Lucas, are you alright?”Her eyes dart to her friend, scanning his form to reassure herself he is without injury. Her sea foam orbs squint with distaste as she sees the pain evident on his face, but she is relieved to find he has not been severely injured as far as she can see. Satiated, she returns her gaze to the abhorrent creature she can only assume to be the source of his discomfort, eyes blazing, “I’ll tear out your jugular! Don’t you dare touch him!” Suddenly the scent of the abomination standing before her wafts into her nostrils, the most enticing and rich blood she’s ever smelt in her entire existence. She imagines it tastes something like a fine red wine that is uncorked after hundreds of thousands of years on the shelf. Her eyes flutter and her expression morphs into bewilderment, “who…. Who are you? You…. Smell….”Elizabeth sighs and blushes, her eyes diverting to Lucas helplessly, the sweet sanguinist overwhelmed with the urge to devour and bow down to the intruder all at once. How could they hope to peacefully dismiss something so old and undoubtedly powerful? What was she to do? "P-please leave, we don't want any trouble, I just want to save my friend.""Is like a tree without blossoms or fruit."

Vikrcop looks over towards the door as the intruder makes their way in. The maniacal Krusnik slowly turns his head and sees the knife in the woman's hand. He recognizes her as Elizabeth Eberstark.
"If children like you were able to kill me with a little trinket like that, I wouldn't be the legend that I am today."
Vikrcop stalks the room keeping his eyes on both Lizz and Lucas.
"I see you fear me, as you should. I am no mere vampire. I am Vikrcop Coffinterror. High Priest of the Order of the Eye. One of the oldest of our kind. And I know who you are Ms. Eberstark, warrior for those putrid Kindred. Trying to interfere with one of my children. He may not understand his purpose yet, but when he is one of mine, and he will see the light of the Order."
The Bat rests his hand in Lucas' head, his cold, murderous eyes shoot darts at Elizabeth in defiance of her demands.
"Like the rest of your weak order, Lucas knows his place. Knows he belongs on his knees. You two, nor your order, will be able to stop us. None of you have the power."

The demon continues to burn inside Lucas’ skull as he becomes vaguely aware of the figure of his friend squaring off against the imposing form of Vikrcop. Until he had confirmed his identity the Kindred Warrior hadn’t been too sure and he had his own fight to worry about. Despite this, a renewed strength seems to rise deep inside of him. Justice rings out its rallying cry deep within the recesses of his mind and suddenly he begins to glow a luminescent blue. As the hated Vampire finishes his diatribe, Lucas rises to his feet. His skin is shimmering and the demon vying for control of his body flees with the resurgence of power from the Justice spirit. The Kindred Warrior has retrieved his knife. He takes a step forwards and stabs it into Vikrcop’s hands as he raises them to defend himself. This causes the Vampire to stumble backwards, almost falling onto the floor.
Events move quicker as the blow glow subsides and Lucas’ eyes shine bright red as the demon reasserts itself. A blood curdling scream of effort escapes his lips as both Lucas and Justice continue to fight the demon presence. The Kindred member ignores the two bystanders as his left eye turns a bright blue, in direct contrast to the demonic red of the other. Both entities speak through Lucas as they survey their surroundings.
We are unable to resolve the problem of control. We both possess this human and I can use my own life force to drain your energy and kill him faster.
Elizabeth and Vikrcop cease all thoughts of attacking one another as they look at the third person in the room, a look of confusion on their faces. It soon dawns on them that both demons are simultaneously possessing Lucas and they watch in silence as the scene plays out before them.
I have been keeping him alive for all these years and I can use my power to kill all three of us. He would prefer I did that then let you take over his mind or suck the life from his bones. I will match any power you use to try to take control and end his life faster. Do you know what happens to a demon trapped inside a human body when it dies?
That is a bluff. We both know demons merely leave the host upon death.
But you won’t escape. I will lock you inside a prison and we will all suffocate to death in this human. You cannot escape me. I am far more powerful than you know so I give you a choice, flee or die.
Lucas remains fully inert, giving no indication that he is aware of what it happening. His body remains stood as the two Vampires regain their senses and stare at one another, unsure how to proceed.

"...A life without love-" Elizabeth Eberstark The sweet sanguinist had never desired the utter destruction of another living creature more, he's the only thing standing between you and saving your friend. It's him or Lucas, I'll die before I let Coffinterror scare me away from saving him. She peers venomously at the elder vampire, "It may be small, but it gets the job done, not everything has to be a contest of size, I would think someone of your age would know that. Something as minuscule as bacteria can devastate the body or a sliver of silver penetrating your cold heart. And fear doesn't mean surrender, Order scum, you may be powerful… but fate is on my side. Also, Kain is better than you, he will make the right decision. If he doesn’t, then I was wrong and he is weaker than I thought. Lucas does not belong on his knees; he's one of the most proud and powerful people I know. He's sick and I don't want to fight you, but if I have to, I will. I will kill you to save him."Elizabeth screeches in surprise as her friend suddenly lunges for Vikrcop and buries his blade into the infamous vampire's palm. An expression of shock and horror is painted on her features as images of what Coffinterror will do in retaliation to such an act, “LUCAS!”Vikrcop stumbles back toward her and she moves around the terrible abomination, successfully bringing herself closer to her friend as well. When Elizabeth's eyes settle on Lucas again, she sees blue light morphs into an intimidating red, and a chill crawls up her spine, oh God… No. If the blue light is Justice… Then… His bone chilling scream assaults the sweet sanguinist's ears and Elizabeth clasps her hands over her head, gnashing her teeth as the pain expressed in his feral yowl stabs into her heart. The Vampiress fights the urge to close the distance between them and throw her arms around her fellow Kindred member comfortingly, afraid of what the dark entity within him may do if she draws too near. Her eyes dart from Black to Conffinterror and back again, flinching away from her friend a bit as he speaks in a tone that she’s never heard come from him before, “P-please…. No…”When the Demons that have hijacked her friend’s body cease their bickering she returns her gaze to Vikrcop, scowling at the abhorrent creature and commands him vehemently, “GET OUT!! You like to play with your food don’t you? Wouldn’t you rather have us ripe for the picking? He’s in no shape to fight you now and all I want to do is save my friend! Please, if you have even a shred of decency within you, please let me save him!”

Vikrcop recoils, holding his hand tightly as the wound begins to mend itself.
"You've got some fight in you. I like that."
The Bat's eyes turn towards Lizz as she makes his demand.
"You don't seem to understand, Ms. Eberstark. How you two are right now, terrified by my presence. You are ripe for the taking. Especially you, Eberstark. Lucas has something in him that is just dying to finish it's work. He is no fun to play with. But you. I can tell you have a heart for my young progeny. That will be your weakness. I know the darkness that hides in his heart. It's what made me choose him to be my child. But alas, I desire to be rested when I see your heart torn from that voluptuous breast of yours."
A sly grin creeps its way across the visage of the maniacal vampire. He backs towards the window from whence he came.
"Next time we meet, you won't live to tell my tale."
Vikrcop changes his form to his namesake and flies off into the darkness.

Lucas is only vaguely aware of the presence of the Vampires as they talk to one another. The Justice spirit and the demon continue to shout at one another deep within the recesses of his mind and he remains immobile. The flurry of wings breaks their concentration and just as Vikrcop departs, Lucas regains control of his body. He immediately crumples to the floor. Elizabeth rushes over and drops everything that she is carrying as Lucas looks up with blurred vision. It takes a few seconds for his sight to focus and when they do he is eternally grateful to be beholding his closest friend as she looks at him, a face a mask of desperation and worry. He nods once, seemingly trying to reassure her. However, a surge of pain overcomes him and his eyes turn red once more.
Are we agreed then Agent of Justice? We lie dormant and play a battle of wills. To the victor go the spoils and to the loser, death.
Lucas is suddenly snapped back to his feet with a violent jerk and his left eye turns a luminescent blue. The Justice demon appears to take a few seconds to formulate a response as Lucas remains frozen in the air, now hovering an inch above the floor as the demon’s power emanates from within him.
Agreed. But know this foul monster of hell. You may be one of the first of your wretched kind but if you try anything untoward and dishonest, I can snuff the life from this vessel and kill all of us. And one more word of warning, do not underestimate Lucas. His will is far stronger than you know.
After Justice finishes his retort, Lucas goes limp once more and collapses in a heap. His eyes remain open but there are no signs of life and his breathing remains shallow. The Vampiress remains firmly rooted to the spot before Lucas takes a sharp intake of breath and he looks at her for the first time properly since his possession, taking in every aspect of her face.
Thank you for being here, it means...it means everything to me. Now, Justice was able to give me some indication of what we'll need and we have a little time before we have to act. Justice is keeping the demon at bay for now. We need to research exorcisms and gather the ingredients needed to restore Justice’s energy. And there’s one last part that we need that you’re not going to like but I’ll tell you that nearer the time.
Lucas pauses in his diatribe, giving his counterpart some time to recover from the shock of everything she has witnessed.

"...A life without love-" Elizabeth Eberstark As another wave of anguish racks her friend’s body, despite being terrified of the demon occupying his form, Elizabeth clings to him in a desperate attempt to sooth the pain. Her hand gently caresses his forehead as the alien voice once again emits from his mouth, and the two parasites begin striking a deal to bide their time before destroying the vessel they occupy. Justice wouldn't do that to Lucas right, he's more than just a host to him, but... He will do what ever is necessary to achieve his goal.. And so will Lucas. Beth sucks her bottom lip into her mouth, her teeth going to work on the flesh there, and she struggles not to allow the scream that flutters in her belly to escape. Suddenly Lucas is out of her embrace and the vampire screeches in surprise, wide sea foam orbs staring up at her fellow Kindred member as he hovers over the carpet. It takes every ounce of willpower she has not to wrap her arms around his waist and pull him back to the ground, as if bringing his feet in contact with the floor will force the spirits back into the darkest corners of Lucas’ mind, “he’s not a prize to be won, he’s a human being! Why can’t you horrendous creatures just let Lucas be!”However, when he collapses to the ground again and the tortured eyes of her friend gaze up at her she cannot contain herself. She does not respond to his statements initially, his words falling on deft ears as the sweet sanguinist bursts into tears and throws her arms around Lucas’ shoulders. She causes the two of them to topple over, her head buried in the crook of his neck and her shuddering body pressed against his as she sobs uncontrollably, “I thought I’d never get to speak to you again! They’re going to kill you Lucas! Oh god! I-I can’t imagine not having you in my life, whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it.”The emerald haired vampiress pushes herself up and slides to her companion’s side, sniffling and trying to clear the salty tears from her face. With a sheepish chortle she hooks her slender digits around Lucas’ forearm and helps him to an upright position as well, “I got the ingredients you asked me for earlier from Adalrich, do you still think they’ll help? What will happen to you if we exorcise the demons… You’ve already lived well passed your human life span….”"Is like a tree without blossoms or fruit."

Lucas remains slumped against the wall while Elizabeth sits next to him. A pang of guilt passes through him as he looks at her tear strewn eyes and he breaks eye contact with her, unable to bear the effect that this possession has had on her. The guilt rises tenfold when he thinks about his plan to risk himself further and he decides that he cannot put her in the dark, not even for a second. His face has turned even graver and she knows that the Kindred Warrior has something ominous to tell her.
There’s something I have to tell you. I was going to keep it a secret but I can’t bring myself to do that to you again and you’ll have to know. This demon is powerful and we could exorcise it but I want to do something else with it. It’s going to be dangerous and it could mean my death if we don’t do it properly or if it doesn’t work.
Lucas sits up slightly and he reaches out for the same piece of paper from before. Elizabeth snatches it up immediately and hands it to him while dabbing at her eyes. He looks at the Vampire in a new light and a new found honesty that he could not exercise with anyone else in the world. Despite his alliance with the Kindred, Lucas still chose to keep things to himself to further his own goal of smiting all of the evil that he could get his hands on. The Warrior takes the pen and writes a message while trying not to look at it to prevent the demon from discovering his plans for it. The Sweet Sanguinist looks on it and she gasps in shock. The message reads ‘I want to trap this demon and it could draw Justice out as well which means I will die.’
After she has finished reading the message Lucas gives her a single nod and taps the inside of his nose. She looks away and her face becomes pensive as she considers his note. Lucas grits his teeth and pushes himself back to his feet. He has just enough energy to flop back first onto the bed where he lies supine, almost pleased to have waylaid the demon, at least for now.
I have a meeting with Patrick later to help get things in motion. Just before I go, I’ll mix up those ingredients you brought because it will help me keep control, and it will be critical that I do so. Thank you for bringing them, I cannot think to do this without your help and support.

"...A life without love-" Elizabeth Eberstark Her friend’s statement causes Beth’s heart to jump up into her throat before sinking down into her stomach, he could die? But there has to be a way, a way to ensure no matter what Lucas will be fine once all is said and done. Elizabeth doesn’t speak for a long while after the Kindred member shows her what is written on the paper, her sea foam eyes leering at the white wall directly in front of her as if it were to blame for her companion’s current perdicament, could the curse be the only way to save him? Would Lucas even let me turn him, could I bring myself to change him, I’ve never turned someone before…. The Sweet Sanguinist shakes her head vigorously in a flurry of emerald tresses, freeing her mind of such thoughts, and returning her attention to the present. For now it didn’t seem that such drastic measures would be a necessity, but the vampiress knew it was a possibility. Let her friend die or infect him with her disease to extend his life indefinitely, she needs to decide whether she could facilitate that or not. Elizabeth gazes up at her fellow Kindred member as he brings himself to a vertical base. In this moment the sweet sanguinist feels so small and insignificant, like a snivelling child, because none of her problems could possibly amount to the Everest sized obstacle ahead of Lucas. When he topples over onto the bed she follows after him, sitting gently on the edge of the mattress beside him, “you know… I’d do anything for you Lucas… I’m glad you decided to tell me the truth about this, I hate to imagine how I would have felt if you and Faith worked all of this out without me… If something terrible were to happen… Do you really trust Fide? He isn’t a member of the Kindred, despite him being an agent for good…”She twists around to face the warrior for good, her body stretching out along the bed next to him and resting her chin in her hands whilst gazing into his eyes. How strange it is to feel so happy to see those baby blues, rather than the glowing red or white orbs of those Demons. The Vampiress bright face takes on a more serious expression, “please don’t do this without me Lucas, I want to be there when this happens, I want to be able to help you in any way I can… And I don’t trust Faith, despite his obvious intent for good, there’s something about him that doesn’t sit well with me.”"Is like a tree without blossoms or fruit."

Lucas remains on the bed and is somewhat shocked when his counterpart expresses her distrust of Patrick. This causes him to think twice about the plans that he has set in motion before shrugging in an offhand way. Inside his brain he can hear the snarl of the beast in its cage sealed by Justice. The constant torrent of noise causes a headache to linger persistently and the Kindred member tries to shrug it off without much success. Lucas picks up the ingredients Elizabeth brought with her and begins to mix them up experimentally. She watches him while he performs this seemingly menial task.
Patrick has never given me a reason to distrust him. I’m not sure I’d go as far as calling him my friend but he was always on the side of the greater good. Though you may be right about him in one respect; he always pursued his own agenda and he might find an avenue of opportunity here that he may think he can work to his advantage. Regardless though, he can help me get what I need discreetly and if his price is too high, you and I can work out a contingency plan.
Lucas has been mixing the ingredients together all the time he has been speaking to the Vampiress. Her ancient eyes remain firmly affixed to him and he feels strange being this close to someone; a friend who would risk life itself for his well-being. It was an odd but not altogether an unpleasant feeling and for yet another occasion, Lucas allows himself to smile a genuinely warm smile as he gazes adoringly at Elizabeth. He could still detect the hint of concern in her eyes and he nods solemnly as if in mutual understanding.

"...A life without love-" Elizabeth Eberstark Elizabeth watches her friend’s reaction to her statement carefully, instantly regretting sharing her fears, if he trusts Patrick… I suppose I can too… At least a little bit more than I do now.“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to imply that he has ulterior motives, I’m sure my fears are unfounded… But darkness waits for the warrior to lower its shield before piercing its heart and I’d feel responsible in a way if something happened to you. I just have a hard time trusting, especially trusting people outside of The Kindred, and though he seems to be of pure intent I cannot say I know why he has meandered into New York. I’d just like to be there in case anything goes wrong.”Her hand slides over his and she gives him a serious expression, “I won’t lose you if there is anything I can do about it…” However, her face brightens immediately after that statement and she returns her fellow Kindred member's genuine smile before her gaze diverts to the concoction Lucas is working on, “how long will the effects of your little potion last?” I wonder why the demon is allowing him to put these ingredients together, one would think he wouldn't allow Lucas to make such a potion... Perhaps he is so confident in his power a simple mixture like this is of little threat to him and his reign over Lucas' body. Beth shakes her head and frowns, trying to force such pessimistic thoughts from her mind. Her hand wanders from his to the plethora of silky green locks splayed on the mattress and begins fiddling with it, "Oh, is there anything else you need from me tonight? And do you think you're feeling up to going and meeting Kain? If not I think I'm going to head back over there before the young vampire rips Adalrich throat out and stains Addie's pretty tile floors. I'll be back tonight and every other night, until I know that you're well again."

Lucas lies back on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling as he listens to Elizabeth’s words. A mixture of emotions long since buried wells up inside him and he buries them deep inside of him, just as he had always done. Perhaps there would be time enough for that later, but right now the only thing that mattered was the demon and protecting this Vampiress, immensely powerful and yet strangely fragile. Lucas turns his head to look at her, the concoction rendering him into a sleepy stupor.
Thank you for being there for me. This should hold the demon off and the other ingredients should help me sleep rather than being woken up every few minutes by this evil….thing.
Lucas fights against a wave of drowsiness that starts to overcome him. He still has things that have been left unsaid and he forces himself to sit up as the demon inside his mind drifts laconically into a dream-world and offering some reprieve to the Kindred Warrior. He smiles almost happily at the prospect of uninterrupted sleep before he speaks again.
I shouldn’t need anything else today. I have a meeting with Patrick later and we need a contingency plan in place. I’ll meet you tomorrow at the House of Honour and we can do some research there. We need to know more if we want to move on this.
Lucas pats the Vampire’s hand fondly before he slumps into the relative comfort of the pillows. He closes his eyes and he can feel the cool embrace of slumber beckoning to him. He re-opens them momentarily just in case Elizabeth has anything else she needs to say.
