Main Plot/Setting
The general consensus of the populous is that the end of existence as they know it is nigh. A mass delusion of some catastrophic event that will occur in December of this year both titillates and horrifies modern man; the planets will align, hell will open up to devour the sinners and a chariot carrying God will haul away his disciples.
Certain touched persons have been experiencing a foreboding sensation of something terrible looming in the near future, like a monstrous executioner with mankind’s name on his menacing axe. In truth, these inklings are caused by these gifted person’s ability to sense the energy of this world. The veil that separates this land from the cornucopia of others is slowly weakening, tearing and voraciously gobbling up foreigners into its open mouth to spit them into unfamiliar places.
Demons and Fae first punctured the veil three thousand years ago, causing a chain reaction which may someday lead to the destruction of the barrier between the dimensions. The veil hasn’t diminished enough for Demons to pass through in their corporeal form, but it allows them to take a human host and manipulate that being to execute their desires. Thus far the nonhumans that have been transported to this plane have remained mostly undiscovered, slowly adapting to their new environment and assimilating into the ranks of the dominant species.
Picture modern day New York; bright lights, big city, and oh! The night life! The mad jungle, bodies dancing like a massive wave along the side walk, honking car horns, smog, and such cultural variety! Beneath the smokescreen of stereotypical urban life resides the secret world of nonhumans.
In whispered groups one might hear of an underground club brimming with supernatural beings, a safe place where a foreigner might unwind and let loose or stories of a horrifying man beast sprinting through Central Park beneath the brilliant white moon. Also, one might catch murmurings of exclusive sects involved in mysterious activities, dark deeds and desperate quests for mankind’s salvation.
The Order of the Eye, for example, is a clan bent on the destruction of the veil and world as we know it. This is a very secretive sect and though membership is not impossible it is an arduous task to overcome. It consists of Humans and Demon Possessed. (Other Nonhumans may join, but they are few and far between)
The Kindred are another of the mysterious factions currently residing in New York. Their goal is to prevent the veil’s condition from worsening. These persons of pure intent hope to protect this plane from the dangers the other lands present. It is no effortless feat to enter the ranks of this clan, but this may be due to their scarceness. This Faction consists of Shifters, Vampires and Humans.
Finally there is The Inquisition, an equally ambiguous group; consisting of only humans bent on the destruction of nonhumans. Modern day ‘Monster Hunters’, they don’t care if the beings are good or evil and will kill them simply because they are abominations in their eyes.
